Took the [Boston Whaler boat] out yesterday to pull the kids around on the tube. I had troubles when I would give the [1998 SUZUKI 65-HP outboard engine] full throttle. [The 1998 SUZUKI 65-HP outboard engine] would bog down and sometimes die out. I would have to rev up the engine and then quickly give it full throttle to get it to go. I'm not sure how to correct this. [Seeks suggestions on how to correct running problems with a 1998 SUZUKI 65-HP outboard engines.] When I got home I put [a hose adaptor on the 1998 SUZUKI 65-HP engine and started the engine.] [Then there were no] problems with the engine at full throttle or bogging down. Seems like when it [is] trying to push the boat is when it struggles. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Fuel related. Get it fixed quickly or she will go BOOM. NEVER and I mean NEVER run an engine on the muffs more than 3,000-RPM.

So lack of fuel or fuel pump? Is this a simple fix or something I need to take to a mechanic?

Running the engine at high speed with no load proves nothing. Even engines running on only half their cylinders can accelerate to high speeds without any load. As Nick remarked, it is not a good idea to run an outboard engine on a hose adaptor at any speed above a fast idle.

If fuel pump it would not run. It is probably a dirty carb and would need to be professionally fixed or you will be buying a new engine.
