Hey all, when the previous owner repowered my 1995 13' Dauntless he installed a 2006 40hp 4 stroke Mercury on it with a side mount control box and just screwed it into the side of the console and ran the cables on the deck instead of through.

I want to buy a top mount control and re-run then cables back under the deck and have it looking as original as possible. Are the controls that I can find online such as on overtons.com compatible with this motor or would I have to get new cables to do this? Any help is appreciated.

Cables are compatible, it the ends of the cables that need to be changed and matched up to the correct control/engine..

I would stick to OEM Mercury or Yamaha controls. Cables will work if long enough.

Ok...cables should be long enough. What if you just cut a small hole in the console to run the cables inside then through the tunnel and left the controls as-is?

Tohsgib, I was thinking that and it is definitely the cheaper option, I was just wanting it to look as clean as possible on the console. I guess I will try this option first and see if I like it.

I can always buy or make a little holder or two to put where the old control was. Right now it just has a peice of TacoMarine board over it.
