I finished restoring an 11' sport recently and found an '08 Honda 20hp with electric start and power tilt. This engine has a tiller so, before purchase, I conducted a search and came up with Honda part # 06532-ZY0-000HE. When I went to the local Honda dealership, he had no idea what this was and said the conversion would be a nightmare that he wouldn't even attempt. He said he would have to order the parts individually. After conducting a more extensive search, it would appear that there is no kit from Honda or reference to this part #, except on websites overseas.
I have yet to find a forum discussion anywhere with reference to this part # and no one seems to have done this conversion successfully on a Honda, although many have asked if it's possible and how to proceed.
Certainly, it can be done, but do I really have to order a kit from overseas? Is it complete? Because there's no parts breakdown anywhere and one forum exchange I read suggested that the harness must be changed also. I read another stating that the powerhead must be pulled to complete the conversion.
After several evenings of searches and hours of reading, I have no answers and a local Honda dealer who couldn't care less.

Any suggestions or experience with Honda?

Chris

This is exactly why I will not own a Honda or a Suzuki. To hard to find parts...

I would look on boats.net Honda 2007 and latter 20 hp. BFP20DKO LRTA VIN BAMJ-1400001, you can see an exploded view of your parts you need and the cost with the part numbers.... You just have to do some homework... I do not think you have to remove the power head....Good luck

Chris, you'll have much the same problem with any brand of outboard. Conversion to / from tiller steering is just not cost effective, so people don't do it, so parts are not available. Keep looking around until you find the right motor - you'll be much better off.

Tim: I have to diagree with you, My Yamaha 25 2 stroke had a kit to convert from tiler to steering for $80. And it was very easy to do. I just showed/gave (were he could fine it) crbenny an exploded view of his engine with the parts, part numbers and price to do the exchange. I would call Boats.net to see if Honda does have a kit for the exchange, Im sure he is not the 1st one to try this. And I would be pretty sure Honda has a kit for the exchange....

Many can NOT be converted for less than a small fortune. The days of tilting up/removing the arm and slapping cables to it are over. Converting an engine is comparable to putting the wrong shaft engine on it...it can be done but will cost you and will look shongo(possibly). Keep looking for the right engine. Problem with that hp range is the majority are tillers until 20-25hp. I would not overlook a 25 either. Whaler had one on their brochure cover for God's sake.
