I have a [1985] Outrage Cuddy. I keep it on a lift with a cover on. Nevertheless, water gathers in the forward sump How does this happens? I'm baffeled.--Chuck

You may have a windshield leak, window leak or at least a leak somewhere. Do you have on-board water? Check your hoses and connections, also if there is a thru hull fitting. Good luck

The water is likely transiting from the rigging tubes into the cuddy. Is it possible to have the boat tilted aft with the plugs removed prior to placing it in the rack? That would allow most of the water to drain, preventing it from making it's way into the cuddy.

It is also possible that the water is transiting from the deck of the cuddy down through the gasket and into the cabin. I have symmetrical leaks via this route in my 1983 Outrage Cuddy. I'm planning to address this via Whaler's fix - using a flat tool like a tongue depressor to pry out the gasket slightly and add a bead of caulk while re-sealing as I go - this will likely take two people to accomplish, working together.

I'm also currently formulating plans to install a through-hull drain in the Cuddy's sole. At least in 1983, Whaler did not offer one. This is also a good place to mount a raw water washdown pump and through hull, which I plan to do also.

Immediately after a hard rain, check on the boat - you will likely have two water trails on the sides of the cuddy cabin about mid-way forward. Mine are just behind the "shelves" in the bow on either side.

The forward sump is probably the lowest point in the hull. What is the attitude of the boat on the lift? Is the bow always higher than the stern?

My 1989 22' has a drain in the cuddy sump. It was the typical 1" brass, but I replaced it with the late model 1"ID plastic. When the boat is on the trailer, I leave the plug out to keep any water from accumulating in the cabin.

Thanks everyone. Lot's of things that I would not have thought of.

Dave-

Interesting about the lack of drain. In our Revenge Cuddy, it had a drain, and an internal wood pad where we mounted a transducer...
