I need the following measurements from fellow [15-foot Boston Whaler boat owner] to help dictate where I will mount my rear bench and center console:

Aft side of front hatch to front of rear bench

Aft side of front hatch to aft side of center console

Also, would you prefer if the bench was farther forward/towards the rear. Thank you.

Maybe this will help. I just picked up a 15' Whaler Striper last Monday. While it is a side console boat and not a center console, I think the for and aft measurements would be the same I can give you the measurement from the rear of the raised forward deck to the rear of the console, and from the rear of the raided forward deck to the center of the rear pedestal seats. You can use that measurement as a centerline for a bench seat if thats what you will be using. Hear are the measurements

The the rear of the side console is 48 1/2"

The centerline of the rear pedestal seats is 71 1/2".

Here is a pic. of the boat if your not familiar with the Striper model.

I haven't decided whether I will make this boat a side or center console. I like side console boats and could save the tunnel problem, but from what I hear the 15 footer is a bit "tippy" and may list to starboard with only the driver in the boat. I like yourself am not a "purist" and believe modifying your Whaler is not a sin if you do it in a way that is in keeping with the Whaler design tradition. Someone on another thread mention that those that are not "purists" are bastardising(is that a word) their Whalers, Kind of ticked me off. LOL

Hi Rich,
Nice find, it looks to be in great shape.
I am a BIG fan of the center console on the 15'.
I am starting my second custom.
The medium Carolina Skiff console & rigging tunnel, epoxy painted to dessert tan, works very well.
Plus you can add, windshield/railing & trim to make it look
like a factory piece.
Most people that look at the boat, ask where I found a factory center console modle??
And it is AWESOME being able to stand & drive the boat.

I will be building some center or side consoles that will fit right in 13 and 15 foot Whalers. they will be stand up or sit down consoles and can be customized as to height. They will be built in the same style as the wooden Nauset console, that being a two piece structure with the top part built in fiberglass and the bottom part with seat in front built from mahogany. This creates a shelf between the two parts as in the Nauset console. The seat in front of the console which is part of the console is hinged with dry storage below. The top fiberglass part will be trimmed in mahogany and the windscreen can be mahogany or plexiglass. I have the plug for the glass part finished, will build the mold soon. Too soon for pictures at this time.
