What brand [hydraulic] steering is good? [The author says that he is] thinking of getting [hydraulic steering] for [a 1999 Boston Whaler DAUNLTESS 18] with a jack plate. [With a jack plate] and trim, the steering can be easy to steer one minute and almost impossible the next. Feels like something might break. Thanks.

Teleflex hydraulic steering is often used with Boston Whaler boats.

U Flex makes a nice product too. Hydraulic steering is far safer than mechanical systems.

I have a 2002 Dauntless 180 with a Mercury OptiMax 135. It can from the factory equipped with Teleflex Sea Star hydraulic steering. It is a nice system which has operated flawlessly for the 10 years I have owned the boat.
