My 1995 Rage runs full throttle sometimes for up to 10 miles and then loses engine speed and stalls. After 10 minutes it will re-start and run. Sometimes it will start after a few minutes but only will run at low engine speed. I have had the carburetors rebuilt and changed the Power Pack. The mechanic tested coils while running in the water by using a timing light on all four plug wires. The mechanic thought the Power Pack maybe was shorting out, so I replaced it. Nothing so far has corrected the problem. What could be causing this? Wondered about VRO. Had to restart three times yesterday to get back to the dock. The last time it ran the last two miles full throttle.

This could result from a coil getting too hot and quitting, the coil will run ok for a while and just quit giving spark, after it cools down it will work again. However this could also be a problem with one of the carbs, or even the engine getting hot. Also could be the fuel line(not getting enough air) check the primer bulb, (replace with only a factory one) And yes the vro could be the problem also, however the oil pumps are pretty good I do not think is the cause but would look at the fuel pump as well. I have an older Evinrude and at the time did not trust the VRO nor did I care to carry the extra oil lines and tank, and I believe in KISS and one less problem.... Good luck to you

Check around the exhaust lines - a fuel line might be crimped - or an ignition wires and line may be opening when it gets hot. Whatever the problem, it is heat related. ---- Jerry/Idaho

[M]ake sure [the] fuel tank vent is not plugged.

This might be a long shot, but I'd check the head gasket. One time I had a worn out head gasket and the motor would run fine for a bit but then stall -- the motor would lose compression when the motor would heat up because of the bad head gasket. After it would cool off, it would run again for about the same amount of time. It had me and my friend who is a mechanic totally puzzled. We replaced the head gasket and it ran perfect again.
