[Seeks] ideas of how to make [a swim platform shown in this photograph] fit [to an unidentified boat's transom]. In using the supports provided, [the swim platform] has an upward slant that would make it near impossible to [get] aboard. I have thought of shims, bending the tubes myself, or having someone bend more tubing to make this swim platform fit. If the arms were flipped over [the swim platform] would be at the correct angle. But the wooden part does not fit into the arms correctly, and [flipping over the arms] makes the arm supports seem too short. There has to be a simple solution that I have not thought of without buying new arms. someone help me here. |

Power; are you sure the wood is attached to the correct bend of the pipe? Or is the bend on the legs the same length? What I mean to do is place the wood where your hands are in the picture and flip the pipes |

The arms have predrilled holes that match the wood, but it does seem right to flip them, it just doesnt fit and the holes will be opposite. |

If you get longer tubes the platform will be under water all the time and dig into the water when turning. You have no choice but to flip the tubes and redrill them it seems |

Did you buy this platform new or used? If you bought it used I think someone took it apart to varnish the wood and put it back together upside down.--rich |

Jim, I thought my sentence structure and question was okay...guess not! :) I got it from a friend...for free...and I took it apart to refinish the wood. I could cut it down a little on the back and flip the arms, that seems like the best solution, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something here. |

Based upon the many transom ladders i've seen over the years, that thing is put together upside down. And Teak is right about them digging into the water when installed, they all do it. |

I have used this type of platform on several Whalers. 1) Slightly bend the side tube tabs to the desired angle 2) Fabricate shims to mount between the top tube mounts & the hull. This will help to create the correct angle. 3)With the boat in the water, hold the platform in place where it is level with the water & mark where you want to drill the holes. This allows you to have the platform at the right height & angle for use.* * As most boats do not float at the same angle that they sit on the trailer. 4) Through bolt the top attachment points for added strength, use fender washers to spread out the load. 5) Use a good underwater sealant on all fasteners. 6) Add a double folding extension step to your platform. These telescope in/out & rest on top of the platform when not in use. .. IF mounted correctly, the platform will not drag in the water, when underway. |
