I know this has been discussed before but I wanted to do a short video explaining the problem and a temporary solution to the problem. It happened to me over the weekend. Mercury Smartcraft Guardian System. Alarm Four beeps every two minutes indicates the possiblity of two different causes. 1. Water in the fuel filter or 2. Low level oil in on the on engine oil reservoir tank Guardian System will: Restrict engine RPM's which equates to speed restrictions Temporary solution to the problem. But like with every temp solution it could cause a catastrophic engine failure. I had this very problem while on vacation with my boat last week. I had determined that I had a faulty sensor on my 135 Opti and had a mechanic make a wire lead just as you described. It saved my trip until I can replace the unit. |

Great video Bluewaterpirate, I have 1999 225 Opti. I have never had that problem but seeing your video has made me think it would be a good idea to rig up a jumper and order a replacement sending unit. Mine is still the original unit. I like the ease of the fix if it happens on the water with the jumper. I have the four section alarm gauge on my dash from earlier models but I keep a copy of all the alarms and the corresponding lights for my gauge on the boat with me at all times. I also have a spare belt on the boat and plugs, filters and various other parts on board, I will now be adding the jumper and a new sensor to what I carry on board. Such a simple fix for a major problem if it happens, to get you in to shore. Thanks for posting such a clear and easy to follow video. Aloha, Sean |

The sensor inside my on engine oil reservoir was the sensor that went bad. I tired cleaning it and it worked for an hour but the fix failed so my next/only choice was to buy a new tank to replace the old one. The cost was $68.00. This is the original tank/inside the tank sensor that came with the boat 10 years ago and 4283 hours of use later. Pictures are worth a 1000 words.
