I have been rewiring my 1986 22 outrage, and while working under the console I noticed standing water in a hole cut-out on the port side deck. I then removed the port fiberglass fuel line cover and the small deck section the fiberglass attaches to find more water! I am somewhat in a panic, and not sure how bad this is, and I don't know what to do next. I looked at the the deck plate closest to the center console, and other than being dirty, there was no water. How is the water standing in the boat supposed to drain?

I also have concern with the deck hole under my console. Should I apply resin to edges to protect the wood core? As always, any info and advice is greatly appreciated.

The water in your port side rigging tunnel can only drain into the fuel tank cavity which you have found is full of water as well thus causing the standing water in the rigging tunnel. I bet if you got the bow lower you would see standing water show up under the forward deck plate by the console as well.

If you have a trailer get the boat on a the trailer and find the steepest hill you can find. Get it facing bow up the water should run out between the underside of the floor and the cavity then it will drain into the rear fish locker. It will not remove all of the water but a good portion of it. I had to do this once with my 22 Outrage prior to restoring it.

The only way to remove all of the water is to get the deck off and suck it out.

Also there is no way you will be able to have epoxy / resin seal up the wood core the is exposed under the console. It just will not adhere to the wood. 3m below waterline rated 4200 or 5200 would work if the wood is wet but, my guess is if it is wet you are likely just putting a brand aid on a festering wound that needs more attention. That hole for the rigging under the console as one of my sources of rot and delamination in my fuel tank cover deck section.

For a look under the deck you can find images here of my deck restoration of my 1985 22 outrage.

Jeff did Whaler change the drainage under the floor in the later model 22's? From the pics it does not look like your tunnels drained into the livewell at all, while my 1992 model seems to drain from the rigging tunnels to the livewell on both sides of the boat.

Bob,

Yes the under deck layout changed in 1989 when the 22' hulls got the Full Width Splash Well.
