Good evening everyone. Can someone help me in reference to the steering issue on my BW 17. I currently have a steermaster Mark II. I am interested in updating it as I have a lot of sloop in the steering now. It looks like I may have to do the same to the universal on the motor. Can anyone provide any advise? I am new to this site and to owing a boat. Thanks Dennis 1964 Boston Whaler Thanks again Dennis |

Dennis -- You have many choices but I recommend you select one of three mechanical steering kits made by Teleflex. Safe-T-QC -- This is the closest to what you have now. 3 turns of the wheel, lock-to-lock. NFB Safe-T-II -- Same as above but with the No-Feedback (NFB) feature. NFB 4.2 -- Same as above but 4.2 turns lock-to-lock. Less steering effort, more turns of the wheel. Used on higher horsepower boats or where low steering effort is desired. You can either use the steering cable stand-off you have now or convert to a through-tilt-tube connection. This choice will affect what length cable you order. The entire kit can be had for less than $200. |

Thanks for the information. Any suggestions on were to purchase the items from/ I have made many trips to West Marine, and Eastern Marine here in Delaware. I am not opposed to purchasing on line; however, I am somewhat leery of doing this in this case as I am not exactly sure what I am ordering. Thanks again, Dennis |

You can use Google to shop it down but the last time I checked, Black Bear Sporting Goods (of all places) had the best pricing. http://www.blackbearsportinggoods.com/Mechanical_Steering_Systems_s/966. htm |
