I said I'd never do it because I wanted a simple fishing boat with very limited electronics. I have a GPS, Fishfinder, Bobs Jackplate, VHF, and now a power pole. I hate the idea of drill holes for speakers in my whaler's console. If you were me, what kind of stereo gear would you use? I want something that is good but won't give me problems due to the saltwater environment. Should I stick with the idea of not having one due to problems down the road? |

A simple solution could be an iPod and portable Bluetooth speakers. |

I would use headphones. There is nothing worse on the water than some boat parked near me while I'm fishing blasting their music over speakers. Sound carries a long way on the water. rich |

I put JL m770s and a clarion amp in my outrage 20 and i am glad i did every time i ride in the boat. i mounted the speakers low on the console and it has very good sound quality. if you dont want holes, you can build a cooler with speakers in it. |

SSP, I believe someone on these sight put a stereo in a cooler to use on their boat, I just carry a small sony on board, do not want the extra holes in the boat for the speakers, also I can carry the sony to the beach or island when we land. But its true with today's electronics you can have an Ipod in your pocket with some ear phones or hook to some speakers. |

I can't remember where I saw the pictures created an extension to the anchor locker area out of plywood to hold his speakers. |

My stereo quit working on my Montauk 2 years ago and I haven't replaced it and don't plan to. I use on of the $10 Ipod speakers that zips up that I bought at Bed Bath and Beyond. The first one lasted almost two years and I just invested in another one. It is great because it is portable and I can take it with me when we pull up to a beach and isn't too loud when fishing. Plus, it is loud enough to hear over my 2 stroke engine noise while running. Pretty much everyone that goes on my boat ends up buying one of these $10 dollar BB and Beyond Ipod/Speakers. It runs on regular batteries which I like becuase I get sick of recharging everything--batteries last a couple of months. |

I refused to drill holes in my hull and went with the Bose SoundLink® Bluetooth® Mobile speaker. I place it on my console or if we're anchored, up in the bow deck. Sounds great! http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/shop_online/digital_music_systems/bluetooth_speakers/soundlink_wireless_speaker/index.jsp |

I use this on my Montauk and it works great. Waterproof, floats and has good enough volume. I can't hear it super clear while underway at cruising speeds, but I'm working with a 28 year old 2 stroke. It's great for when we're at anchor or beached. Batteries last a long time. |

I mounted my stereo on a wooden bracket built and installed inside the side louvered door to the console. Bracket was mounted at the top of the door. You had to open door to access but it was clean and no holes. Speakers were installed in either side of the igloo cooler in front of the console. Worked great, sounded OK, but eventually I removed the whole setup when I re-wired the boat. Just never used it and the radio's location made it difficult to get a battery in and out of the side console door. |
