My fist remodel was 1989 22' OR. It had issues,Tank replacement, cap rails rotted, but over all a fun project. The second one,( still working it) is a 22' Guardian, built like a tank, much heavier than the 22' OR. It has the aluminium cap rails and cutty cab. Same thing, replaced tank covered all gutters and flush decked it. Why Whaler didn't make this model a flush deck and eliminate the bilge, I don't Know but it works great. From my experience as a non professional boat builder,Boston Whaler has a good hull design, constuction and resale value Now I'm into this 1997 24' OR hull that I found on CL. Just a bare hull,no center console or motors, but in pretty good shape. The CC was mounted on the deck cover for the fuel tank.it came up first and felt kind of flimsy. Now my other Whalers had plywood in the floors and that was ok. When I cut the cover open,it was made with Balsa core and had turned to mush! BALSA CORE sucks in boat building when there are other prducts that are lighter, stonger and water resistant. Also found balsa core in the cap rails. I say again as a non-professional boat builder,I am a little disappointed,WHY would Boston Whaler use such an inferior material in a wonderful product? Whew!!!! just needed to vent. I still like my Whalers.
