As I filled up this morning, gas poured from the stern bait well and onto the pavement. I pulled the inspection plate over the aluminum fuel fill/vent hose fitting on top of the fuel tank. There I found a gaping hole in the fuel fill hose elbow. I replaced the hose last year, so this hole developed since then. I have searched the site for a source for a replacement and didn't come up with anything. Is this something Florida Marine Tanks would have? The tank is plastic and I would assume original. Thanks, Ted

I guess it's a equally pressing problem that the hole developed over the course of one year. Ted |

That sure doesn't look like plastic to me but at any rate, you need a new fuel tank. |

No, the fuel fill and vent elbows are together on one aluminum fitting mounted to the top of the plastic fuel tank. You are probably correct that I need a new fuel tank, but before dis-assembling the boat to replace it, I'd like to try to repair this and see if I can get more one more season out of it.Ted |

I'll contact the OEM of the plastic tank. It is not FMT. Whaler customer service may be able to help identify it. |

Talked to Whaler customer service. The first guy said OEM fuel tanks would have been aluminum, by FMT. I told him that from my time on continuouswave, my understanding was early V-22s had plastic tanks. He then punted to Chuck Bennett. He didn't answer, so I left a message. Meanwhile I'll check out the tank to see if I can read the sticker.Ted |

Early 22s had the 70 gallon polypropylene tanks and a lot of those were replaced with aluminum under warranty.Looking at the factory diagram I have, I see the fill and vent elbows are aluminum welded to a round aluminum plate that also accommodates the electrical fuel level sender and grounding wire. My suspicion is that you will have to find a capable fabricator to make one. |

No, it is in my vast collection of obscure Whaler literature in the file cabinet here in my office. |

Ted,Can you just remove that disc with the vent and filler tubes from the top of the tank and have a new one fabricated and leave the entire tank in the boat? |

From the other images in the photo-gallery, the plastic tank appears to have been made by Tempo Products of Cleveland, Ohio. I think they are now either out of business or part of a larger conglomerate of marine companies. From the image of the fitting and its corrosion, it looks like the fitting must have been sitting in water or the dirt and grease around the fitting held moisture, which accelerated the corrosion, as the breakage seems like a nice ring around the fitting. |

Moeller bought Tempo so I'd contact Moeller customer service and see it they have anything off-the-shelf that would work. http://www.moellermarine.com/oem/fuel_tanks/fuel-tanks/ |

Yes, I'm embarrassed and ashamed of my boat's guts. It looks stunning from the gel coat out, it always turns heads. But right now it looks stunning from the driveway!I spoke with Chuck Bennett who confirmed that it is a Tempo tank. Then I called Moeller customer service who asked for photos and the tank model number. I found the sticker which was 97% intact and in surpisingly good shape. Unfortunately the 3% which wasn't legible was the part with the model number stamped on it. I think it said TP 70 71. So I gave this information to Moeller, haven't heard back yet. I'm trying to do something similar to Jeff's suggestion. Thanks y'all, Ted |

After a fairly extensive search, I found a new aluminum elbow that fit nearly perfectly into the hole left by the failed elbow. Then, I filled the seam with a fuel resistant 2 part epoxy- PC11. I also cleaned the fill/vent fitting, pick up fitting and the surrounding tank as best I could. I'll need to monitor it closely, but I've fill the tank twice and no leaks. If I can get through the season, my Christmas present will be a new tank, it's time. Ted |

Those early 22's looked great with the red rubrail insert. Nice boat. |
