I am going to be going through the painstaking task of a rubrail replacement this week, and have read a few posts on how it is easier if the rigid section is cut into sections and then installed vs one continuous piece from the transom corners forward. My last one, I ran one continuous piece, and it was very challenging. Is is OK to cut into say 15 & 10 ft sections install and then run secondary inner piece around continuously? Thanks

I've replaced two rub rails, one on a Montauk and the other on an Outrage. I'd stick with one continuous piece. It's a tough job and I found it takes at least two people to do it. The most important part of the job is heating the rub rail so that it's flexible. |

July and August may be better times of the year for such a job. Exposure to a couple of hours of mid-day sun could make some of the work easier.I hope to do the job on my 13 Sport this Summer. Butch |

Not that difficult a job. No way I would do it in pieces. |

One piece, please for the sake of the boat. There are two methods for heating the rub rail, heat gun (air dryer), or a large bucket of hot hot water. (I prefer the later, using two buckets. One bucket to actually heat the rub rail, the second to keep it warm thereafter.) Also a 2nd person is huge, one to feed and one to pull. Do not be afraid to give the track a good pre-spray with some lubricant. I |

oops...miss-hit some keys.I did a Montauk with a friend in ~45 min. (Not counting filling up the buckets.) -- I just takes a lot of pinching and pulling, and a rubber mallet is good to use for sideways tapping to walk it down when it is stubborn. |

Sorry, I thought you meant the rub rail itself. I assume you are talking about the mid classic rub rail set. And if I understand what part you are talking about. Yes, just lubricate it and it should still go together. If you do sections the rubber portion of the rub rail will develop a bump where the split is over time. |

Excellent feedback. THank you for the replies. I am going to endure the PIA job that it is and run one continuous piece from transom corner to transom corner. I will have to get ceative on the best way to heat up the snake... |
