I like your Styker T-Top. I'm looking to replace the Mills top on my 1990/22' Outrage/Standard console/leaning post/twin Yamaha 90-4s. How did you mount the lower side pieces to the floor? Did you screw them to the gas tank cap or through bolt w backing? How close to the console, and did you utilize the stan-offs and how many? I can not see if there are any pre-drilled holes to run wiring to the various mounts on the top. I went to the "Stryker" website and I'm quite impressed. Any other CWer's have input? Thanks, Steve |

The Stryker is just screwed to the flooring as was the original BW leaning post. There are two standoffs that you can customize that secure it to the console. It is very solid. I didn't wire anything to it so I'm not sure about pre-drilled holes for wiring. You can adjust how close you want it to the console side to side. I went with maximum walk around room. Canvas shop that did my previous boats radar arche was very impressed with the welding and construction. He could not touch the price. He's working on a matching dark blue "phone booth" with Strataglass. Neighbor has an 18 Outrage with Whaler T-top and the Stryker looks much better design and consruction wise. The original Whaler looks to be a lot of 2" and straight lines while the Stryker is 3" with a curve to it. |

Looked at the Stryker and there are no pre-drilled holes for wiring. Comparing to original Whaler both have lower tubing of 2", the Whaler has skinnier 1"(?) tubing for the top itself while the Stryker is all 2" which looks better. Looking at the Whaler T-tip, it looks to be screwed to the deck vs. back plates and bolts which would require taking the console out. |

First and foremost: nice spruce-up. The boat looks really good and that Mercury looks good on the back as well. I recently saw photos of a 25' Outrage with twin 150 Mercury Fourstroke engines and it looked really good as well. For clarification and accuracy, you did not post photos of a boat with OptiMax engines. I believe those were 115 HP BlackMax engines, which are entirely different from the OptiMax engines. Just in case someone is looking to make comparisons between OptiMax and 4-stroke performance, etc. The BlackMax engines were solid performers for Mercury. I had a 150 BlackMax on my 18' Outrage before repowering her. However, they were standard issue, carburated 2-stroke engines, not the more advanced DFI OptiMax engines. Just out of curiosity, why did you replace the leaning post with the RPS. I agree that a teak reversible pilot seat is very sharp looking, however, for functionality, I have found I really like the leaning post more than the RPS....which is why I am asking. Dave |

Eagle, Did you the buy the SG300 or the folding SG600? If you have the folding top, do you like the way the folding mechanism works? I have a large t-top on my Outrage 22 that has worked out well for me in most respects. Unfortunatley the t-top assembly makes the boat too tall to easily store in my garage. I like the way the SG600 can be folded down. Your boat is looking very nice. I like the overall proportions of the Stryker top. It looks more appropriate on the 22 than the top on my boat. I have been thinking of making a change at some time in the future and may spring for one, though it would be down the road quite a ways. Thank you, Doug Vazquez |
For clarification and accuracy, you did not post photos of a boat with OptiMax engines. I believe those were 115 HP BlackMax engines, which are entirely different from the OptiMax engines.
They are whatever Mercury was selling in 1989, two cycle with internal 2 cycle oil tanks.
quote: Leaning post was butt ugly and the seat acts as leaning post or seat with back rest. Teak adds a lot to the look. Really makes the boat look like a classic. Neighbor has a later model, 100% plastic 18' Outrage and the difference of teak vs. no teak is striking. Teak rear seat back, teak RPS, teak rod holders, teak console doors, teak bowsprit, teak inserts on the downrigger bases. If I could add the teak gunwales that were available, I would. Previous owner had a customized metal storage center. I replaced that with a back facing cooler seat which is also my fish box. Hidden in front of the cooler is my tackle storage box. In front of the console, cooler seat adds two more seats. I'll be adding a three quarter width back seat, similar to the original full width seat and a bow v-cushion setup Here's a pic showing the cooler seats. |

quote: That is the SG300. If you trailer and need to get the top down every day, the SG600 would be the way to go. If it's a once a year storage, the SG300 has eight bolts and you can lift the top half off |

That makes more sense. The first year for the OptiMax was 1996, when Mercury introduced a 200 HP version of the motor. |

What kind of performance do you get with the 150 hp on a 22 Outrage hull? While it sounds somewhat underpowered, I have heard claims of 37-39 mph with a light load and propped right due to the lighter weight on the transom. I'm looking at a similar setup. Might be a low cost, low fuel consumption option for bay and river use for fishing. Do you still have the pictures you can send me? the links dont seem to work anymore. Thanks, Brian |

Thanks Jim. Maybe he fell into that huge tank coffin in the floor of the 22 and some old foam soaked him up like water ... |

The very much debated performance figures for this boat are found in this thread: http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/007886.html |

Great, thanks Buckda! Very interesting read. If I can get similar performance with a 150 to what is being reported, that would be a very nice option for the 22 Outrage. I was hoping for around 40 mph. 45+ is very impressive and almost unbelievable! The mid range fuel burn reported is also quite efficient as well. Brian |

I can get 37 with a light load in my 22 Outrage with a single 130 yamaha. |
