Hi everyone,

I've just bought a used Yamaha 90hp to replace my '98 dead engine. My plate is marked as follows:

YAMAHA 90AE0
6H1 L 4****6
F

The "*" are figures of my serial #. The "F" is stamped alone on the bottom right corner of the plate. Picture available here:

I thought it was a '89 year because of the "F" stamped on the bottom right corner of the plate, but when I search on the web I see that the 90AE0 is a model of year 1983. Not a good surprise.

Could you please confirm that ? I'm looking for a wiring diagram, but I need to know the exact year of my engine. And if it's indeed 1983 It's a bad news because everything I can find (manuals or parts) are referenced from 1984. What happened in 1983 ? Major change in design ?

If someone has a copy that can be sent by email, I would greatly appreciate :-D.

Thanks. Michael.

Yamaha officially started importing outboards to the USA in 1984. Some earlier units made it over here by other means.
The chart I have shows model number ending in "O" as a 1990 model year.
But "90AEO" is puzzling.
Usually they are like "90TLRO". (90 HP, power T&T, long shaft, remote control, then year code).

Yamaha Marine has excellent customer service (1-866-894-1626).
They would know for sure.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I forgot to mention that I'm in France, not in USA. However you gave me a good explanation why I find information about post-1984 models :-).

Michael.
