I recently purchase a 1998 Conquest 21 (mustang7nh's). I would like to replace the antenna mount. It is located on the starboard cabin bulkhead approximately 9-inches to 12-inches aft of the cabin window. What is the easiest and best access to the inside of the bulkhead?

It would be unusual to find that an attachment to the hull or cabin structure of a Boston Whaler boat was made before the hull and superstructure were joined, and on that basis you'd think that someone, during assembly, must have been able to reach the location on the inside to install the retaining fasteners for the antenna mount--probably someone with a long arm. Look for some panel or other covering that is removable that will enable access to the area.

On my Boston Whaler boat the antenna mount was installed in a location that was just possible to reach with my arm stuck as far as I could reach into the small space behind the cabin superstructure. I could not see the area and had to work entirely by feel.

Thanks Jim,

I just finished the repair. I bought a new antenna mount and took off the locking mechanism and attached it to the old mounting plate.

Boat manufactures leave the back door unlocked at night so the KNOMES can work. These little people can get to locations for installing things that us big people can't get to.

Would you happen to know what the GNOMES charge per hour? ;)

With a 1998 Boston Whaler, a mount for a radio antenna was probably installed after the boat left the factory. A dealer or owner most likely was the installer.

There is no doubt the antenna mount was installed after production. I was trying to find out if it was better to remove the starboard bulkhead panel or the instrument panel. in this case the path of least resistance was a simple replacement. I look forward to learning about the 21' Conquest as I did my 18' Outrage with great information from this site. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute information as I modify the boat to my needs.
