Just acquired a 1987 13 ft. hull in good shape, except for a bunch of rust stains on the deck from various metal objects having been left laying out. I've got Starbrite Hull Cleaner that I'm going to try, and I have some TSP I can experiment with. Anyone have a sure fire solution to remove the rust stains?

Something with oxalis acid (Barkeeper's Friend @ Walmart) should do it.
Use the powder and water to make a paste. Let it sit, scrub and rinse.

Oxalic acid.

Muriatic acid will work as well.

I would go with Oxalic acid, we can get it on ebay in the UK. $15 dollars US was about enough to do my 16 footer 3 times over inside and out. Keep the drips away from your aluminium trailer though.

Works Tub and Tile Cleaner, about $2.50 at the supermarket.

I've tried Starbrite hull cleaner applied with barkeeper's friend - took about half the stain out. Tried the tub & tile cleaner with and without barkeeper's friend: no effect. I believe Starbrite has oxalic acid in it, but perhaps it's not as strong as the hardware store oxalic acid... What about Naval Jelly?

Works tub and tile cleaner does an excellent job on any surface with rust

OBTW: Works Tub and Tile Cleaner also take the brown tannin stain off with virtually no effort, just spray it on and brush it off.

Yes, The Works® Tub & Shower Cleaner probably works well because its active ingredient is? Wait for it...

Oxalic acid
