I am in the process of putting a new floor in my 1984 Outrage 18. When I pulled up the center hatch I found a piece of aluminum. Should I replace with plywood? I am going to re-[fiber]glass the hatch. |

I think you are asking about repair or refurbishment of the center deck that covers the central fuel tank cavity. There are some good articles with plenty of illustrations in the Reference section of the website. See http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/centerDeckRepair.html and the two-part article http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/outrageRestore.html http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/outrageRestore2.html |

The typically will be some aluminum bars that are installed across the top of the fuel tank as hold-downs. |

[T]here is no plywood at all[.] [The previously described "piece of aluminium"] is [now better described as] a sheet of aluminum. |

A sheet of aluminum is not original for either the 18 Outrage nor any Commercial Hull. As you can see, I rebuilt my floor with plywood. If done correctly, a plywood core should last for many decades to come. |

Jeff is there anything you would have done differently the second time around? I have a soft floor on my outrage and I need to plan for repairing it this winter. |

George, no not really. I know some will argue to do the repair in NidaCore but that was just to expensive for me. If done right, the plywood will out last you.. I am happy to help answer and questions you might have on the process George, just give me a call (or email for number). |

Thanks Jeff, If you are going to be attending the Miami boat show again next year maybe you can stop by and supervise;] |
