I have a 1977 13 I have considered retrofitting with oar locks. As I posted in another thread, I have an 11.5 that I am planning to sell with standard oar locks that I have considered removing and installing in my 13. Correction, Ellen's 131

Has anyone ever installed a set of oar locks into gunwales of a 13 like or similar to mine?

Any idea where to source bronze oarlocks OEM to that boat??

Thanks in advance.

Take a look at Perko # 0831.
I've put those in a Squall before - requires some minor 'engineering' to reinforce for heavy use.
The original Whaler oarlock sockets did not have screw holes in them like the 0831's.

Pete,

I Assume you will row from the forward thwart facing aft? Is that going to be a good location for you? Are you going to be rowing for fun or exercise or are you preparing for a way back in the event of an engine failure?

I ask because I wouldn't want to row my 13 on a regular basis. It's just a bit too large, heavy and cumbersome. I've done some rowing although it was years ago. The boat was a wooden flat bottom home built with a good bit of rocker and was a lot of fun to row. It would spin in place due to it's slight draft and rocker shape.

I know how much they suck to row, I used to row heavy whitewater bag boats (rafts big enough to haul all camp gear and food etc) so I know how to "unstick" them. I guess purpose is backup propulsion and/or moving spot to spot while fishing w/o trolling motor. I also know original Classic 13s had oar locks but not sure where they were installed. I love to row, have no illusions about 13 being a row boat at all - I guess I have no good reason or excuse.
