I have a 1987 outrage 18 with a 96 Johnson 150. I am thinking of building a cover for the engine well to hide all the lines and just make that area look "nicer". I'm thinking of a simple shelf (1/2 inch 24"x80" AZEK). Wondering if anyone else has done something similar?? Thanks |

I cleaned mine up by pushing the engines back by using jackplates, and plugging the drain holes in favor of a bilge pump. Works well for additional storage also, but still looks like the original configuration, complete with battery boxes. http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/standardTransomBracket.html What you are talking about was kind of achieved by the Whaler full transom configuration, but they are rare in the 18's, and only offered 1985-86 years. See 5th photo down http://continuouswave.com/whaler/cetacea/cetaceaPage24.html I am assuming you don't have batteries in the splashwell, so a cover could look OK if done well. It will be a big piece of wood! I would use the multiple beveled teak board configuration that Whaler used during those years. The classic Outrage 19 actually has something close to what you are thinking about, a large teak board well cover |
