Well, I now have a great project Whaler: 1987 Sport 13, which I acquired as an empty hull on a trailer. I'm posting my rehab progress photos on Photobucket: [url]http://s216.photobucket.com/user/skred/media/1987%2013%20Sport/DSC00074_zps9e83e1df.jpg.html/url] I'll be posting the finished mahogany photos in the next few days. I have yet to buff out the hull and replace the rub rail and install the navigation lights and wiring. |

It looks like you have already refurbished the Norman pin. |

Yes, I did. I wanted to ease into the project (grin..). BTW, I apologize for the misnomer: the boat is a Standard 13 being converted to a Sport. I just posted the finished woodwork tentatively put in place. I really would like to change the layout to the '71 Sourpuss layout with the steering in the center, as shown in your reference section. I ordered the Teleflex steering with an 11 foot cable, which would allow me to re-locate the steering at no expense. I already have the 2 long side rails for the setup, and would only need a piece of rail across the back and a low backrest. I'm looking for a couple of more detailed photos of the Sourpuss interior. |

Good luck with the girl, looks like a nice base to work with. Get rid of that metal gas tank, and grab a plastic one. I'm not sure if you like them, but I went with a dual console in my 15', and I love it. Are the holes in the bow from a trolling motor? |

I actually have a plastic tank also... Like them better, but the metal one does have a plastic protector on the bottom, so it leaves no marks. I'll probably sell it, though.. Yes, I'm pleased with the overall condition of the boat. Especially since I got the boat and trailer for $1,200.... Yes, the holes are from a trolling motor. No big problem to dress them over. I've already filled the holes with sealant and left room at the top for epoxy... My sister owns a car portering/detailing company, so I get all the buffing stuff I will ever need. I tried a bit on the outside at the stern with just a rag and some of her "special" compound, and the gelcoat came right back. Guess I'll have to wait till spring to replace the rub rail - it's averaging around 45 degrees every day now... I really like the idea of the helm in the center, like the Sourpuss style, and I found a bunch of photos to work from if I decide to change it. In a perfect solution, I'd love a stand-alone center console just a bit taller than the original Whaler-style (16x21x25h). Found one for $154.00, but shipping is $70 bucks... Maybe a nice home-made mahogany version, or something like Tom Clark did with is Dive 13... |

Er... That's Clark Roberts, not Tom Clark.... Sorry.. |

Well, I finally made a decision on the console. Since I ordered the steering cable length at 11 feet, moving the steering gear toward the centerline - and enlarging the console accordingly - has resulted in a perfect fit for the steering cable. It also allows for a better trim situation, plus some welcome console-top space for accessories: Now, to mount the controls, and sort out some rail setup. Haven't yet found a standard side rail setup that my budget can handle... |
