Need a boarding ladder of some sort and was thinking just a stainless step for boarding the boat when wadefishing. What do you guys think? Causing waders to leak because of crawling over the side. This wouldn't be for water skiing so I am thinking the stainless step might be work but don't want to regret it. I am leaning towards the white cap teak ladder because a buddy has recommended it and feel thats the best option but wanted to hear opinions. Also, aren't there Trim Tabs that double as step? I think I have seen them on flats boats. Has anyone used them on a Montauk? See below:

Do not know final solution, but the best ladder is one you can deploy and access from the water side of the boat.

I've been pretty happy with the ladder show in the first

I've had that whitecap swim platform on a 1976 Montauk and was very happy with it. It's similar to the ones that come on the newer Montauk 170's as well. I kind of like the ones with starboard instead of wood.

Any ladder that doesn't drop down a foot or more below the bottom of the hull won't get you into the boat very easily. Note that Chuck's swim step is retrofit with a longer 3-step telescopic ladder. I think his is a super clean solution, and one that I've considered for my Outrage.

I suspect SSP wants to anchor in a couple of feet and wade around, making
a three-foot ladder too long. But the ladders come in various lengths often
with the same bolt pattern.

Exactly, most of the time I am getting in and out in knee to waist deep. I know if I have one installed on the transom to be very cautious about who does it. I hate the idea of drilling into the transom. I started reading about some bad expirences people have and know i am second guessing it though i don't want to ruin a brand new pair of Simms. My Montauk is really clean and I hate for it give me trouble. I am going to do some research yet and talk to some shops near Galveston as to what they recommend.

There's a business here in South Carolina that makes one of the nicest swim platforms for Montauks. They sell them on eBay only as far as I can tell:

I have the platform blacksmithdog shows in his post, it works great and I have had no problems at all. Mine is on a '77 Montauk. The fold down ladder telescopes enough to make it easy for even a somewhat overweight middle aged guy like me to get in in deep water.

The size is perfect for sitting on and dangling your legs in the water in the summer. It is also a great place to stand and relieve one's self in warm weather.
