Russ 13	posted 12-17-2013 08:09 AM ET (US)             I used a 14' on my center console set-up. I would use a tape measure and follow the path you want to route the cable. So it will be the right length, as they are hard to stretch....
skred	posted 12-17-2013 09:28 AM ET (US)             11 ft. seems short. I'm using 11 feet on my 13 sport with the side console about 1 foot further than normal from the motor, and it's perfect. Teleflex says to leave a 12 to 16 inch radius on their cables.
Binkster	posted 12-18-2013 09:44 AM ET (US)             Thanks Russ, I was thinking about 14 feet. When I get the console finished next week, I'll set it in there and take some measurements. Think is its hard to make a loop with a tape measure, maybe use a piece of garden hose. I would like to see a picture of any Whaler where the steering cable exits the center sump in the floor. rich
macfam	posted 12-18-2013 08:15 PM ET (US)             When you measure, with a garden hose or rope etc., measure what would be nut to nut, and add 18". The total will be the length to order.

DVollrath	posted 12-21-2013 12:15 PM ET (US)             I just measured the cables taken out of my 1984 15' CC, which had been rigged for a Yamaha F70 by a local dealer. The control cable housing and ferrules are 9'. I would get them 10' or so, as the cover for the rigging channel could not be fastened down with 9' cables. The housing + ferrule portion of the steering cable measures 116" or so. Same caveats as for the control cables, bump it up to the next size. I cannot remember which cable didn't allow the cover to be succured. Dennis
Binkster	posted 12-21-2013 02:21 PM ET (US)             I placed the console in the boat and measured for the steering cable using the garden hose method. I ran it through the tunnel up into the console to where it would attach to helm, and then looped the hose over and around to about where it would attach to the outboard. I get 14'2" not to nut. So I will add 18" to that and round it off. Thanks to everyone who helped. rich
