I am in the process of restoring a 1988 SUPER SPORT 15. The previous owner cut out the bottom of the plastic box that forms the storage area and installed a 15-gallon Pate Plastics-brand fuel tank, which sat flat on the floor of the boat. I am junking the Pate tank and looking at my options. I have found Moeller makes both a 14 and 15-gallon tank that will fit where the Pate was. I would put teak strips on the deck for the tank to rest on so water would flow under it. However,is this my best option? I am raising the console and seats three-inches so other tanks might be used. A good time to move some of the weight forward? Any advice will be appreciated.

I have an 18 gallon RDS custom aluminum fuel tank that is taller and rectangular. How high are you raising the thwart? zot.

Sounds like the teak you intend to install would be isolated and perhaps seldom attended to and subject to constant moisture. You may find "Plasteak" trim stock a preferred alternative. It is made of recycled milk containers and the like and would last for ever. See the Plasteak web site for info.

Zotcha, tell me about your RDS fuel cell. Where did you install it and what are the dimensions? Is it on a 15 SS? I will be raising the thwart 2-3 inches.

Unfortunately I did not order this one custom. I bought it two hours away and thought that I could use it. I will send you two pics...one with capacity/authenticity label, and one resting under my mini custom leaning post. Do not have measurements right now, but you would really have to raise rear thwart. Paid $225, which was cheaper than having built, but if you can use it same price, plus shipping. zotcha.

Hope you can benefit from it. Additional fuel always a bonus!

Pics sent but no measurements. Sorry. zot.

Zotcha, got the pictures. Good looking tank. I would need the exact dimensions to see if it would fit but I suspect it is too tall.

Chuck, are you interested in this tank because you will not be mounting it under rear thwart? Thanks. zotcha.

I was thinking to mount under the rear thwart, but it sounds as if it is too tall if made for a console.

Yeah, actually fits under a mini leaning post, where I would ultimately like to mount a livewell. Difficult for under a thwart. Sorry. Best of Luck. zotcha.
