I am planning to mount a pair of Scotty brand downriggers to my 1998 Montauk using Scotty's model 1027 rail mount adapter. This adapter needs a 1"x6"wooden board for support. My boat about 60 miles away. Does anyone know the length that the 1" x6" board needs to be to be mounted on the Montauk?
Thanks
Dick

I don't know the length for the Montauk, but I have them on my 1982 Classic Sport 15. They work well. http://k5rcd.org/Whaler%202.htm

I suggest you take a board and a saw along with you and cut them to length. You may need to cut them at an angle to fit your boat. If so, just take the measurements and angle, and go to any local lumber yard near your boat, and have them cut them for you. I suggest you paint them with a couple coats of good exterior enamel before installing.

Dick, you need to measure. It will make a difference in height depending on how forward you want the downrigger mounted on the rail. I did a slight angle. Take a rasp and some sandpaper also.

I used the scotty 1027's for a long time. My first encounter was on my 1996 montauk and again on my 2003 170 montauk. They do work good.
Now, I just got the 2007 190 montauk and will go a different route. Going to try out the scotty 2027 stanction rail mount.

I just measured mine on my 1978 Montauk and it comes out to 9". On my boat, I have it mounted on the rail right at the RPS seat. The height of the rail varies but not by that much. If you have some extra lumber, I would suggest that you cut extra lengths - both shorter and longer.
