| Finally got a Whaler |
I was recently given a stainless bow rail for my '81 16'7. My boat has never had a bow rail on it before. This rail only has mounting hardware for top of the gunwale mounting, 4 hole rectangular 60 degree bases along the side and two 3 hole circular bases for the bow on either side of the light. Are there specific areas that I want to have the bases, specifically are there back supported areas in the gunwale top for mounting hardware, or are these only in the sides? What is the preferred securing hardware? Wood screws or threaded? Any info will be appreciated. It has been a while since I posted.--Gord. |

The Wood Locating Diagram for you hull will show you where the hardware needs to be attached. http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/16-17/graphics/ 17wood1190x743.jpeg Use #10 x 1" Phillips Oval Head Sheet Metal Screws to mount the rail. |

Thanks Tom, I had gone to the drawings first but wasn't sure if I had the right one. Is the use of Sika Flex sufficient for waterproofing or is there a better product that will give more strength in anchoring the screws? |

I don't know which Sikaflex product you are talking about but if it one of their polyurethane caulks, it will be just fine for sealing screw holes |
