| Author | Topic: 1998 Outrage 17: Removing Deck Over Fuel Tank; Rigging Tunnel Location |

Hello. [On a Boston Whaler] 1998 Outrage 17 I unscrewed the 23 screws holding the deck that covers the fuel tank; using a blade, I cut the white caulking all around it. The only place I have to give [the removable deck] some lift leverage is the circular inspection cover just aft of the console. I tried to lift it [the deck?], but it will not budge. By the way the console is also out. How do you lift it [the console or the deck?] free of the boat, is there a trick? |

I separated the [deck over the fuel tank] by lifting up with some support in the inspection cover for the fuel sender unit. [The bond between the removeable deck and the remaining deck] was tight due to the residual adhesive caulking [that remained] after I had driven a blade through. Where is the rigging tunnel? I though I would expose the rigging tunnel when I lifted the tank cover. |

To answer your question, there's no "rigging tunnel" per se. There's a cut-out on the bilge side where the wires and cables goes thru but, from there, they ride on top of the tank to the console. |

I did look at the diagrams available on whalerparts.com but they do not show the rigging tunnel. I contacted the very helpful resource at Boston Whaler and they confirmed what saumon mentioned [actually it seems they contradicted saumon--jimh], the rigging tunnel is molded in the hull and does not get exposed as some other Outrage models. I should be able to raise the bow and hose the opening of the rigging tunnel at the console end to wash away any debris in the tunnel. The rigging tunnel should drain into the stern fish locker. |
