Today I cleaned the fuel tank top while I had it exposed. I noticed that a brown wire leading to the fish locker area in the [stern] had damage. I wiggle and pulled out some slack to inspect. The conductor was exposed. As I pulled the wire coiled in the boot to the bilge pump, I noticed some marine grade wiring. This is how my bilge pump is wired.

Very nice. I'm sure you are going to fix that.

I am glad I caught this connection. I am absolutely going to fix it with Ancor Marine Grade Electrical Nylon Insulated Adhesive Lined Heat Shrink Butt Connectors.

It never ceases to amaze me how people cob together wiring on boats. My boat is not an excellent example of electrical engineering, but I know all connections that I can access are at least safe, if not perfect.

It will be quite a while, but one day the boat will be completely de-rigged and I will completely re-wire it. As it is now, though it is basically a plate of spaghetti thrown into the console, all wiring is bundled and no wires are hanging from their terminal connections to be yanked off by someone stuffing something into the console.

Some day.

I would still coat the connections with some type of protection....
