Hi everyone- did a search, and it's a bit rare to find leaning post installs on a Montauk.
My query: Whats a good height for a leaning post seat on a Super-Tauk [Montauk], other than what feels comfortable for your height? I've re-configured from the full beam 'lo' mahogany seat of the SuperSport to a 'Super-tauk' for fishing.
Installed a 35" hi console [Panga Marine: Niente Model], w/16" wheel on the 45 degree upper panel of the console. That puts the bottom of the wheel at +/- 28" from deck.
I have 3 choices in the build of the item: 28, 30, or 33"; also has a back rest and a flip up foot rest set at about 4" above deck, so it's designed for use seated or leaning.
Being 6' tall, the 33" would seem the best height for leaning, but when seated, because of height relative to wheel, I can see possibility of needing to 'hunker' forward to turn wheel, operate throttle, etc.
I'm looking for any 'rules of thumb', basic formula, or just anecdotal accounts of anyone having modified their helm seat higher, and how high?
It seems to me a 3 component fitment issue:
1. Seat height for piloting leaning
2. Seat height for piloting sitting
3. Seat offset from console or wheel for comfort from either pilot position.
I'd like to hear opinions or actual experience.
Thanks,
Joe
