The bimini poles for my 1997 20 Outrage have what I can best describe as a rubber "doughnut" on the rear pole for each side. This appears to act as a cushion to protect the gunwales from being damaged by the bimini frame when it is collapsed and laying back. I have checked Taco Marine and Taylor Marine. I can't seem to find these and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on the OEM. I am pretty sure they are factory. Thanks |

how about: a heavy rubber gasket, rubber band cord, A/C insulation, piece of rubber hose from a hydraulic supply, fire hose, clear plastic hose (home depot), ...there are tons of other things to try...good luck |

I have those on my 1999 Outrage 20. They are a factory-done thing that is really nice. They are meant to cushion the individual Bimini poles against rattling while folded and they protect the gel coat while lying flat in the travel position. It appears these hard rubber collars, for lack of a better word, are put on before the stainless end joints are riveted on. I have looked for these at local canvas and Bimini shops to put on another boat, but have not found them. They are great items Sterling |

Do you mean the little bumpers that put on the frames? |

Not the "doughnut" type but those are used to keep the clear plastic from a full top away from the tubing: |

Thanks for the replies so far. Here is a picture of what I am talking about. I think it is the same thing onlyawhaler mentioned. Maybe I need to call Mills? I know they made canvas for BW up until at least 1997 when Brunswick purchased BW, maybe longer, I am not sure. I know at some point Great Lakes began to supply some or all of the canvas to BW. I am not sure if Mills also supplied the Bimini Frames as well as the canvas or just the canvas. There is no mention of this part in the BW parts catalog, it just refers to the bimini as a whole unit. http://s1195.photobucket.com/user/flipper507/media/Whaler/biminibumper_zps73165e3c.jpg.html [Try this link: http://i1195.photobucket.com/ albums/aa384/flipper507/ Whaler/ biminibumper_zps73165e3c.jpg--jimh] |

Here is a picture from my profile pictures on continuuouswave which is on photobucket. Its on the second page http://s2.photobucket.com/user/onlyawhaler/media/1999%20Boston%20Whaler%20Outrage%2020/Sept2007Pictures094.jpg.html?sort=3&o=31 This is my bimini and this came from Mills for Whaler. These black bumpers are positioned to keep the stainless poles spread apart evenly and not touch or rattle. One set keeps the bimini from touching or rubbing the fiberglass when its laid down. I have seen these exact same bumpers on larger Sea Ray Sundancers. I wish I could say Whaler is still using these on their new boats, but we don't have an active Whaler dealer here in Utah Good luck. I would try Mills, but I think they are out of business. I would next try Whaler to see if they can be bought through them or their current Bimini supplier. The only disadvantage I see is getting them on the poles as you need to disassemble your bimini which means drilling out your rivets on your end connects to slip these on. Onlyawhaler |

Thanks Sterling. It looks like we have different bumpers. I may give Mills a call. They are still in business. Just not sure if they currently do any OEM work for BW. I have a BW dealer here local so I may ride by and see if they are still being used. Mine almost seems to be made of rubber so it maybe it can be expanded enough otherwise I would need to drill out the rivet for the end cap. I will report back what I find. Seems like there were a lot of changes in 97-98 due to the Brunswick buyout. I found an old thread from this forum where someone else was looking for these. There was some discussion but an answer was never posted. On a completely unrelated topic; Sterling, I have to ask you a question about your speaker install. In your boat pics, I see you have speakers mounted below the aft seats. I want to do the same thing but I cannot find a speaker with a flush enough profile to let the fish box lids clear it when you open the fish boxes. How did you solve this? If I were to mount speakers there, the fish box lids would hit the speaker after only being opened a few inches. Looks like we have the exact same boat so I would imagine the clearance is the same on your boat. Thanks |

Jason, I will go pull off the cover on the boat tomorrow and take a few close pics of those speakers and the model they are. I will post them to my photobucket account in my profile here so you can see them. Its a close swing with the lids, but they do clear. Sterling |

Thanks Sterling! I will look forward to seeing the pics and I will see if I can find out something about these bimini bumpers. Thanks Again! |

Talked to Mills Canvas. They told me when they supplied BW, they supplied the canvas only, not the frame. I called BW and they told me that Great Lakes supplied the frame and canvas for my 97 Outrage and gave me the GL Part Number. So I have emailed Great Lakes. We will see what they have to say. The search continues..... |

Hey Jason, Back with a few pictures. I have added 3 to my photobucket profile listed with continuouswave Here is a link if it works, if not, just access my profile http://s2.photobucket.com/user/onlyawhaler/media/1999%20Boston%20Whaler%20Outrage%2020/Whalerspeakersfromabove.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0 The short story is that my speakers are a marine version of Sony that are water resistant. They are quite flush as one of the pictures shows. Another point is that these few pictures show the rear starboard side. Its important to drill and mount the speakers towards the center of the boat to gain that little extra interior space for the speaker to clear as the interior livewell curves inward to get that depth needed. Wish you the best Sterling |

Thanks for posting the pictures Sterling. It looks like a manufacturing change was made between the model years. My fish box lids sit nearly flush to the bulkhead. Looks like they pulled about 3/4" off the end of the lid on later models. Probably to allow the deck to drain easier and conveniently allows speakers to be mounted there. Looks like that solution wont work for me unless I have a fiberglass guy modify the lids. Not sure I want to do that or if it would hurt the integrity of the lid. As far as the bimini bumpers, I spoke with Great Lakes, They said they no longer stock the bumpers and have not done so for long enough they they have no record of who the OEM manufacturer was. I have a feeling if someone took 5 minutes to look in a file cabinet they could have told me but looks like that is not going to happen. |
