Does the Shepherd rail on a 1988 Montauk 17 fasten to its base using the same 10-24 x 1/2" screw as the side rails? Thanks.

Yes. The stainless steel self tapping screws have a plastic fitting at the head. Many times, when screws are loose, falling out, and stripped, the screw thread is stripped (not the tubing) and adding a new screw will solve the problem. For the correct screw that includes the plastic fitting call Fred Caldwell at CMI Marine 781-740-1260.
