I have reviewed the wood location and cannot tell from the diagram if there is wood in both of the inside channels down from the gunwales, where I will be running my plywood andfiberglassed-over plank seats from side to side. I would like to mount them on the lower channel but it looks like the wood may be on the slightly upper channel. Is there wood in both? These are the channels that run from bow to stern and about one-foot down from the gunwale. I see many bow rails and side rails mounted on the upper one, so I assume there is wood in there; is there in the lower one, as well? Thanks |

If I recall correctly the factory wood planks for seats were mounted on the lower step on the inside of the hull. Tom Clark is very knowledgable about Whalers he may know the placement of wood in the 16'7" hulls. I do not think the whaler factory screwed them in place, they just rested on the step. I know its a pain but if you look on the net you might be able to find something on this. Good luck |

Refer to http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/16-17/graphics/ 16WoodDWG15-10.jpg See item with callout D. Look at the cross section drawing marked "View Inside." |

Thanks Richard/Jim. I did review this diagram before but now I have zoom ability which does look like the "D" is the upper of the 2 channels. To be safe I will use the uppers. Flipping the boat over this weekend to attack the bottom; sanding and hopefully one coat at least of primer; hopefully topcoat interlux over Memorial Day weekend. I was not overly pleased with the boweye and being slightly off center with my drilling. The 2 part epoxy I used is so strong it guided my bit to off-center I think. Came out hull side just off. I am thinking of redoing it later. For now though I have the eye in to be able to bring the boat back onto the trailer after handling the bottom. Best |

Redo the eye now, you have it off the trailer, nothing is in the way and if you do not everytime you look at it you will be pissed because its off center, beside you have the stuff to do it with and its easy to get to right now. |

I will be pissed; agreed. I am going to fix it. |
