I have a 1987 Outrage 20 with a leaning post behind the helm, consisting of two aluminum poles, each topped by a padded cushion, and measuring 21-1/2 inches across. Has anyone replaced those with seats, and if so, what brand would you recommend? Thanks--cw

It was common that a Boston Whaler boat of that era would have two molded seats. They are typically molded polypropylene seats with some snap-on cushions, and a slide mount base for attaching to the post. I believe the hardware was made by Springfield. Perhaps the molded seats were, too.

The field of replacement seats that can be installed is a very fertile one, and there is practically no limit to what can be done nor how much one can spend on a seat. I am still using the original seats on my boat, which are fairly plain and seem reasonably comfortable. I think they are similar to these:

But even from a single vendor, Springfield Marine, there is a very wide assortment of seats or chairs available, at a wide range of prices. See
