I'm replacing my Lorance X5i with the Garmin 70DV and will enlargen the existing hole in the transom bulkhead from 3/8 to 5/8 to run the new transducer wire.

Can/should I use PL5200 to seal the hole after I've installed the new transducer wire?

Can you - yes. Should you - probably not.

3m 5200 is really more of a structural adhesive - used for gluing things together like a deck to the hull. If what you are trying to do is seal something up, I would suggest using a sealant.

In the 3m line there is 4200 - I like boat life caulk.

My local guy didn't have Boat Life Calk but had 3M 4200 so I went with that.....$23.65....holy moly!

Thanks Plotman.

Give us a pointer to the PL5200. Is it something new?

Jim H-

It's the same 5200 as always.

The PL stands for "Power Line". 5200 is marketed as one of 3M's Power Line adhesives - hence the PL sometimes used as part of the name. You will see it that way in some of the marketing material - though I've never seen PL on the packaging.

Page 6 of this document has a great chart on when to use each of the different 3m products.
