[A 2006 Mercury OptiMax 225-HP outboard engine is now] not starting, following a change of spark plugs. [The engine only runs] for 20 seconds. [Cylinders number] 2 and 3 have spark, but, when [the spark plugs wires are disconnected from the] sparkplugs, [there is] no change as, if they were not working.I did notice my remote tank had some contamination with water, so I traced it back to the in-line filter, which had mostiure. The cowling oil tank was full but the oil line that goes to oil injection was dry with no oil. So I replaced the in-line oil filter and dumped the oil in both tanks. When I did that I noticed crystallization on the filter in the remote tank. So I replaced that filter. I did the self prime three times forward, the line seemed as it were still empty. I'm assuming engine had no oil, I did the priming twice. The engine started with high RPM, a puff of white smoke, and some oil in it from the prop exhaust. But it did that only once, then idled no smoke for five minutes, then shut off.
Thought it might be fuel restriction so open up the VST [vapor separator tank] and cleaned it out. I checked the fuel pumps; both work.
I checked the tracker valve and no tears or pinholes. No fuel on the air valve either.
The engine was running perfectly prior to spark plug change. I changed them because they were seven years old. [The spark plugs are] NGk IZfr5g.
Coil ohm test of 3.2-Ohms on all six.
There are two grounds on the coil banks; the one on the 1-3-5 side has a little corrosion, greenish but very light. Don't think should be a problem as it was working prior. Just like this.
The battery is at 12.7-Volts and is a 1,000-MCA-rated DEKA.
