Due to a recent incident where I believe I lost some gas to a thief, I went to get a Perko locking insert that fits inside the Perko fuel fill. I use one on my Sea Ray and it works quite well. I quickly found that even though I had a 0541 Perko Deck fill, it was an earlier model that did not allow the lock to be inserted. So I decided to replace the fuel fill with a new 0541 Fill that is molded to allow the lock.
When installing the new fill I noticed it did not have a ground connection to the Stainless cap like the original did. Looked at the instructions and it specifically states "NOTE: Plastic Fuel Fills should NOT be grounded". I guess something must have changed from a safety perspective?? Anyway, I pulled the cap ground wire back to the tank and cut it off.
Any ideas on why it would have changed? Just curious.
