posted 08-12-2014 05:42 PM ET (US) I managed to bend the rear/upper steering rod at the motor mount on my 1987 OR18'. It's a small bend and prevents the boat from making tight turns to port. Turns to starboard are fine.
Question: Can the bent rod be repaired? If not, what's involved with replacing the rod and/or cable? Is this an easy DIY?
Many thanks,
Ian

I would replace cable. Not sure on an Outrage (always had hydraulic steering on mine) but some other boats require that the motor be taken off the transom to replace the mechanical steering cable because the boat structure blocks the cable from traveling through the tilt tube.
