I removed the original bow chock and navigation lamp assembly from my 1986 Montauk in order to have it re-plated, and I have run into a snag. Like an idiot, I did not soak with penetrating oil the two fasteners that hold down the lens assembly prior to attempting to remove them, and as a result, partially stripped them. I have now been soaking them with PB Blaster and hope to have enough grab to remove them. Does anyone have a part number for a suitable replacement for these fasteners? Also, assuming I cannot get them out with a screw driver, what is the preferred method to remove? Thanks.

I don't know the fasteners but as with any stuck screw use an extractor or if you don't want to buy a special screw extractor (kit) still drill a hole and use one of your square tip driver bits. These square tip driver bits are slightly tapered so drill your hole in the screw equal to the smallest diagonal size of your square bit tip.
Push the tip in with a slight tap and lefty-loosie.

Wally--from my 45-years of experience in tool and die, take the assembly to a machine shop. They will remove the screw heads to gain better access to the frozen screws. The rest is pretty much what EJO said. Were you closer, I would fix it while you watched--Tom from Rubicon, WI.

Thanks for the replies. I have decided to take it to a machine shop and have them remove the screws.

I ran into the same problem with my '87 and had to slowly turn via small vice grip pliers. My local Ace hardware actually had screws that fit (unsure of size, I just took one in, they were stainless). Didn't have the exact same look as the originals, but the pan heads sat even with the lens cover and the overall fit was tight.

I ended up taking it to a machine shop and having them removed. Cost was $20 bucks and well worth it. I have the light assembly at a plating shop and when it is returned, I will find some suitable screws and post a description.

Thanks for the up date Wally, I knew the machine shop would fix you up. Broken, stuck, sheared off screws are are our bread and butter jobs.

Use some thread anti-seize compound on the new fasteners, and they will spin right out the next time. I use it on just about everything these days.
