I have a 1992 Montauk with a 1992 90 hp V4 Johnson outboard. I have problems with plugs fouling easily. My mechanic has NGK BZ7HS-10 plugs installed. Should we be using a different plug? Thanks for any help.

Find your engine on the information listed in the REFERENCE section at

http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/BRP/SparkPlugChart2008.pdf

Use the spark plug recommended in this document from the manufacturer of your engine.

As I read it, the 1992 90-HP uses QL77JC4 or QL82C. On ALL VRO/OMS equipped motors the "QL" supressor plug is recommended.

I don't understand why so many people in the USA think that the best spark plug to use is now some Japanese brand of spark plug. OMC engines always use Champion spark plugs.

The Z series NGK plugs usually cost quite a bit more than the recommended Champion plugs.

The QL82C is the one to use is you have fouling problems. Also check your thermostats as they may not be warming up the motor enough at slow speeds to prevent fouling.

used Only AC plugs or next choice would be Champion, (AC = Arthur Champion) I have found the best are the AC for some reason....
