This winter i plan on making a large amount of repairs to a new to me 1979 Newport 17 commercial hull, one of the things I want to fix is moving the RPS back a few inches, it is too close to the console I keep hitting the ignition switch with my knee and turning off the motor, not practical when travelling in a tight channel with traffic.

I imagine it should be just as simple as removing, sealing old holes and repositioning, the question I have is there wood everywhere under the floor

Thanks

To do this winter, so far

Repair and paint hull
Redo electrical and move batteries to under console,
Reupholster or replace seats
Rebuild carbs on 1979 80 HP Merc
