Just found [a 1974 Boston Whaler MONTAUK] boat today and I have a few questions. Hairline cracks are prevalent on the decking. Can a new coating of [unspecified material] cover and seal all these cracks? Several holddown clips for the Bimini have pulled out and also [one] of the anchoring screws for the swim ladder platform is missing: what is the best way to re-anchor the hardware? How does the helm seat change position? [What is] the best way to shine up the gel coat: use 800 wet sand? I need new cushions for the helm and cooler seat in front of the console. Where is the best place to purchase [replacement upholstery]? I sea trialed the boat in a heavy wind and a 2-foot chop. The boat did [something] awesome. It just glided over the water. [The 1974 Boston Whaler MONTAUK is] powered by a 1990 Mercury 90-HP that is a very strong running motor Much Obliged for anyone that answers.--Sonny |

For advice on how to repair cracks and restore gel coat finish: See the answer in the FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS; http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/FAQ/#Q5 For advice on restoring the purchase of fasteners that have become loose; See the answer in the FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS; http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/FAQ/#Q7 For advice on the best vendor for replacement upholstery, see the REFERENCE article on recommended vendors of upholstered items; http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/OEM.html#upholstery I recommend reading all of the FAQ answers. Also read all the articles in the REFERENCE section. If the helm seat is a Reversible Pilot Seat, the seat back swings fore and aft. Examine the mechanism to discover the latching method. [Because this thread is trying to discuss five topics at once, it has been closed. Please start a new thread, one for each topic, if additional advice is necessary. Please do some reading of archives, and these topics are richly discussed in prior articles.--jimh] |
