I have a 150 Sport (2003) with the 60hp two stroke engine. Motor has been fine in the past but due to family health issues I have not been able to use it for the past two years. I have kept the boat covered and did fog the engine with Stabil fogging oil. I want to hook up a hose and run this on the trailer this week. While I can watch for water flow thru the engine and will replace the water pump impeller I am unsure how to verify that the oiler is working properly. Is this a major concern or am I over thinking this? I will have fresh fuel and fuel filter, new batteries but want to test run at home before trailering to the lake 250 miles away.

I should add that it is good to be able to get back into boating again, the past two years have been rough. I hope all my electronics and stuff are still okay, will find out soon enough.

If you have concern that the automatic oil-gasoline mixing is not working correctly in the fuel system of your two-cycle outboard engine, it is prudent to use a fuel consisting of some gasoline and two-cycle oil pre-mixed at about 50:1 ratio. Use the pre-mixed fuel until you are satisfied the automatic oil-gasoline mixing pump in the engine is working properly.

If you properly prepared the engine for long term storage, it should be ready to come back to service without too much difficulty. If you have any doubts, it might be prudent to remove the spark plugs, insert a small amount of two-cycle oil directly into the cylinder via the spark plug hole, and then rotate the flywheel by hand for several rotations to verify the engine is able to turn over easily and nothing is stuck.

The simplest way to verify the automatic oil-gasoline mixing pump is working correctly is by running several gallons of fuel through the engine, and carefully observing the level of the oil reservoir tank. The oil reservoir tank level should go down by an amount appropriate to the volume of gasoline consumed and the anticipated mixing ratio.

Jim,
Thanks for the reply, I will mix up a few gallons of premix and verify the oiler is working properly. Would it be okay to add some seafoam to the mix? I would like to get about 6 gallons of fuel run through the engine with a short run at home for a half hour or so. Other than some extra smoke is there any thing else I need to check?
