I noticed the black vinyl pieces that sit between the instrument panels and the wheel are shriveled up. Where can OEM ones be purchased? How easy they are to remove and replace?

I removed mine, and think it's looks alright without it.

But if you want to keep it black, I would use a new material that I used for the same purpose to replace bad "mat tac" black leather grain vinyl on my 1979 Montauk console.

It's called "adhesive black carbon fiber vinyl" and you can get it on Ebay. It's a good product and very durable and good looking.

Larry, I know why you ended up using the carbon fiber but, every time I see it I cringe. It looks like a dash panel out of a sport compact, Honda tuner car with a huge coffee can exhaust. Sorry man.

3M makes a standard matte finish untextured sign vinyl that can be sourced from any good print shop. This would be a perfect replacement for the center area of the console. Here you go: 3M 1080 Matte (Satin) Vinyl.

I agree with Jeff, that carbon fiber stuff is awful. I have used 3M satin sign vinyl in the past several times for exactly this purpose. I just buy a yard at one of my local sign shops. It lacks the texture of the original but is otherwise the same color, sheen and toughness.

The 1982-2000s console with the aluminum instrument panels needs only a very small single piece to go behind the helm. It is an easy job and makes the console look finished instead of having that bare gel coat.

The 1978-1982 console use a larger piece that covers the entire face onto which the teak instrument panels are placed. The edges are covered by teak trim.

With either console design, you apply the vinyl, then trim the edges with a razor. You will see the original score lines from the factory when you remove the old vinyl.

On consoles with the aluminum panels, install the vinyl, install the two instrument panels then place a straight edge along the top and bottom of the panels and score that line across the vinyl for a perfect fit.

[This discussion was buried in a MARKETPLACE advertisement thread. I have moved it to REPAIRS/MODS.--jimh]

The helm dash panel on my 1990 Boston Whaler REVENGE has this decorative trim applied. It is a black faux-leather vinyl known as Mat-Tak (or Mat Tack). It has really begun to shrink, stiffen, and lose its adhesion. In 2014 what is a good source for replacement material?

I have a 1990 Revenge 22. A few years back, the original vinyl at the helm station began to peel at it's edges so I trimmed around the throttle handles and removed it. I would appreciate a source so that I can replace it as well.

The AMAZON on-line shop at

http://www.amazon.com/3M-MATTE-Black-Scotchprint-Series/dp/B00598U2EM/ ref=aag_m_pw_dp?ie=UTF8&m=A2IZL066S4B22W

looks like a mail-order source. When I hover over the graphic showing the vinyl product, it looks like it has a leather grain or pebble grain finish. That would be acceptable.

I just discovered that one of the on-line sellers of these vinyl materials, METRO STYLING, is actually just a few miles from me! I may have to go visit them in person.

I also discovered that the material that we've been calling Mat-Tac or something similar is probably actually called MACtac. See
