The 1960's vintage 16'6" Whalers have siderails in the rear of the boat. Those siderails have "T" fitting where the vertical rail supports meet the horizontal rails. Is it possible to replace those "T" fittings or are the horizontal rails made from one piece of stainless that is bent after the "T" fittings are in place?

I just tackled the same project on my 1975 Montauk I. I found that the port and starboard joints on the bow rail already had a sleeve. The side rails had to be cut to replace the fittings.
Previous posts on this topic offer a good idea about how to tackle this project. For the internal sleeve at the joint, I used 3/4" o.d. acetal plastic solid rod. Very modest pricing from online suppliers, and with a little sanding, I was able to tap it into my rail using a rubber mallet. Snug fit, and no rattle.
