What is the preferred sealant these days for fastening things like bilge pumps and their switches which sit in saltwater a lot, yet need to be removable for repair?

I would have thought silicone, but I think I remember reading it is not recommended for underwater applications (or was it just saltwater?)

The mind boggles at the number of different kinds of goop available.

I have been completely satisfied with Boat Life brand caulk for the past many, many years.

I'll second the motion for Boatlife Lifeseal, but not for LifeCAULK.
