I ran into unexplained flooding of the lower hull of a 1996 Boston Whaler JUSTICE 19 that I got surplus from the Virginia Game Commission. The flooding did not happen the first year I used the boat. I was in some rough water this summer, and the boat took on an unusual amount of water between the two hulls. Water came up through the hatches and caused some concerns in the open Chesapeake Bay. A lot of work with two bilge pumps was needed as water began to come over the transom cut out.No visible entrance space was observed when it happened. After getting the boat out of the water and doing a through inspection of the transom area, I found the bottom was gone in portion of one of the boots leading through the transom to the console. It created about a 2-inch opening for water to enter the hull and was not visible unless you got low enough behind the transom to see it. Solution was to reroute the cables higher with a new boot and close off the old opening. Also, I keep the new high speed bilge pump on auto every time I go out.

I am having trouble visualizing your boat's construction from the narrative. When you speak of "two hulls" I get confused. I need more explanation. I think, perhaps, you are talking about water accumulating between the deck and the top of the Unibond hull. Also, is the leaking boot at the transom a type of flexible rubber seal or gland through which control cables pass? |

It sounds like you found the leak and fixed it,,Just how low do you sit in the stern for water to get through the cable boot?? |

RWestMy 2002 Justice 19' had the same double hull configuration. There is a large open space between the upper deck, that you stand on, and the lower deck that the fuel tank rests on. I found water leaking in to my hull from loose Thru-Hull fittings. (5) in the transom, and (2) going in to the port and starboard deck storage areas. I replaced the loose Thu-Hull fittings and applied a liberal amount of 3M 5200 sealant as they were being installed. This took care of the slow steady leaks that my boat had. Good Luck. Bill |
