I am trying to find a new bimini top for my 15' Whaler. The width needs to be 61-66' and the height should be 54", so I can drive in a standing position. But all the ones with the right width are only 46". I checked E-bay and the internet. 6' length is OK

for some details about the 15-foot hull and a Bimini top. Considering the very low height of the gunwales, a top that you could stand under will have to be on a very long frame.

Hello Bink! Happy New Year. Hey, I may be down this weekend and wanted you to know that I used the little Cuban guy, still have his number, who advertises with the mini bimini's on the side of the road in Spring Hill and on weekends, in Hernando Beach. He and his wife have a shop and all the jigs for any kind of custom bimini tops. The wife is the seamstress. Awesome team and they enjoy cash, if you know what I mean. I can take measurements of mine, or Shanghai it down as a pattern for you this weekend. Leaving tomorrow so let me know.

I had my original straps upgraded with heavier duty webbing and upgraded SS hardware. I found him to be very reasonable.

Now duplicating my entire frame may be same scratch, but the final product is what counts. I'm leaving this morning so I need to know if I have to drag it down.

A "very tall frame" would not mean that the Bimini top was of outlandish proportion to the boat. A 15-foot Boston Whaler boat has very low sides. It is only 15-inches from the floor to the top of the gunwale in the area where the top would mount. Add 54-inches to that and that would mean that the main frame that is tilted to the rear at an unknown steep angle is probably less than 69-inches high. The middle bow may be a couple inches higher, but I doubt that my 71-inch height is going to enable me to stand under the top without scrunching down.

BINKSTER says the Bimini top must be considered "in proportion to the boat." Yes, that is a good way to judge it. Now we find from BINKSTER that the gunwale height is only 15-inches. The frame for the proposed Bimini is to be 54-inches. That means the frame is 3.6-times the height of the gunwales.

Let us carry this same ratio of gunwale height to frame height to my boat, where the gunwale height is about 30-inches. That would mean, according to BINKSTER's sense of proportion, that I could have a frame for a Bimini that was 108-inches or 9-feet tall, and such a frame would not be able to be described as being "a very tall" frame.
