I recently purchase a [1994] OUTRAGE 21 with a Evinrude 200 Ocean Pro. Upon taking it out today for the first time, the engine started right up and idled good--a little shakey. But when I went to accelerate, the Evinrude 200 Ocean Pro would start going then it would just start cutting back like it stopped getting fuel. I changed the water-fuel seperator and problem still exist. Everytime I would try to get up on plane same thing. It would start going then start stalling but for a second it would get gas back and then stall again.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. The boat did sit up for a year but tank was drained and fresh gas was put in. I think the cause is fuel related, perhaps in the fuel lines, fuel hose primer bulb, carburetors, or gasoline vent. Thanks guys

Noob, since it's been sitting for a year, and from your description, the most likely culprit is the carburetors--probably time for a rebuild. If you are handy, this can be done by an amateur, and the rebuild kits are not that expensive.

It could also be the fuel pump has given up, but that's less likely. And since you don't have the full history of the motor, not a bad idea to rebuild the carburetors anyway to start from a known baseline.

I would not recommend running the engine, other than briefly, in it's current condition. You don't want the engine to be running lean for any length of time.

My 1992 Evinrude V6 90-degree 225-HP engine would stumble and hesitate slightly under acceleration when the the spark gap of the spark plugs was too great.

I changed all spark plugs and gapped to .03 before running also changed water fuel separator. Their was some junk in separator filter.

Went to go change fuel line today and noticed air leak on bulb. Hoping that's the culprit. I'm rebuilding carbs, replacing head gaskets and water pump next week.

I did notice a small pool of gas under carbs and seems to be leaking by the gaskets as well.

Noob, try fixing the fuel bulb and any other leaks first, and test it. Hopefully that's the entire problem and you'll be good to go. I'd definitely change out the water pump if you don't know when it was done, but no reason to tear into the carbs and / or replace the head gaskets unless you have to.

Some gas often spills out of the carbs into the intake silencer when you tilt the motor, so a small amount of gas below there is not necessarily a problem. Not sure what gaskets you were referring to.

The gasket on tip the carb bowls were the ones I was referring to. Sorry for not being more specific.

I replaced bulb, but have not had a chance to run it yet.

Also I found small amount of oil leaking around some of the spark plug holes. I tightened them as always do. I don't want to over tighten them. Why would they be leaking oil?

Hard to believe you were actually getting oil back out of the plug holes. My guess is that the oil was left over from when the previous owner winterized the motor - when I do that, I always spray some oil in the cylinders after fogging, and my aim isn't perfect. I think that's a good sign.

A model number would be nice.

Do not overlook a stuck or sticking timer base - also known as the spark advance plate that should move as the throttle lever is advanced.
